This Statement Print tells the tale of two of liberties: one religious and the other secular. It was the best of a cut above, it was the worst of a cut below. It was the age of certitude, it was the age of tribulation. It was a time of a cross to bear, and a time of a godsend. In short, the human spirit of optimism tells the tale of a champion in moments of liberty.
Observe the backdrop of this print, rising in the horizon is the french liberty statue printed from a woodblock to depict:“La Liberté éclairant Le Monde“, Liberty Enlightening the World. In the foreground, a Roman Catholic statue sourced from a 1800s drawing. Observe the white chalk and pencil line. Both statutes are of neoclassical style and inspired from Libertas, a Roman goddess who is the embodiment of liberty.
